Staging Places : UK Design for Performance 2015 - 19
opened at the V&A on 23rd July
Many of the selected designers have chosen to share their working process as part of their exhibit.
The run of the exhibition at the V&A is now being extended until 29th March 2020.
The SBTD are particularly keen to get the full spectrum of design, technical theatre and performance students in to see this exhibition and to understand more about the role of a designer in realising a production or indeed that they can be theatre makers and dramaturgs in their own right.
Introductory talks or workshops
If you would like to arrange an introductory talk or workshop for your students when they visit, please contact Fiona Watt directly: email@example.com
The exhibition is accompanied by a new website gallery
This shows the work of all 150 designers who submitted to the open call which we believe will be an excellent resource.
After 29th March 2020 we are looking at options with the V&A for the exhibition to tour. Get in touch if you think there may be possibilities for this in your region.
The Value of Design
SBTD have been running this advocacy campaign with the ALD, BECTU and Equity as part of the re-negotiations of the UK Theatre and SOLT collective agreements.
SBTD Regional Heart activity this year will focus on working with venues to shape, develop and promote Assistant, Associate and established Designer opportunities to work within theatre buildings and access main stages for the first time.
If you would like to book an SBTD talk/workshop for your students at your institution around professional developement and industry support networks, please get in touch with:

Initial on-line communication will start mid-November 2018, and a first 2-day gathering of up-to-50 participants (a mixture of an early career core team and students) is planned to take place 30th and 31st January 2019 in Nottingham. A final, smaller curatorial team is going to be shaped after that, according to the skillset we feel we then need, to take the project into realisation for PQ19
We look forward to hearing from you soon!
